Self Advocate Parliament

Sad Face Sadly we don’t have enough money at the moment to keep running the Self Advocate Parliament Meetings. We are trying our hardest to get more money and we hope to restart the Parliament later this year. The rest of this page explains how important having the Self Advocate Parliament is and what it means to us.

Why did we set up the Parliament?

Represented People with learning disabilities want a more powerful voice in Wigan.
Not everyone has the chance to have their voice heard and sometimes people do not know how to speak up.
Self Advocate Parliament We want that to change so we have created the Self Advocate Parliament. The Parliament is open to all people with learning disabilities, aged 18 and over, who want to have their voice heard!

What does the Parliament do?

Talk about what matters The Parliament exists to make sue that all people with a learning disability can have a say about the services they use and talk about the 'BIG Issues'. These issues have already been chosen by people who went to earlier Parliament sessions.

The BIG Issues

Social Lives

Communication

Housing

Transport

Personal Relationships

Campaigning The Parliament is also a chance for people with learning disabilities to have more choice and control in the decisions that affect their lives and challenge professionals to make things better.
Meets Every Six Weeks The Self Advocate parliament has a big meeting every six weeks to tackle these important issues.
