Q: What is Wigan and Leigh People First?
A: Wigan and Leigh People First is an independent user led self advocacy charity for people with learning disabilities.
We listen to what members have to say and campaign about the things
that are important to them.
Q: What does self advocacy mean?
A: Self Advocacy is about
speaking up for ourselves. It is important, people with learning
disabilities should be listened to.
Q: How often do your members meet?
A: We have a weekly meeting that is open to any of our members. At
the meetings we talk about any issues that are important to our
members.
Q: When do the meetings take place?
A: The meetings are on Tuesdays from 10 o'clock in the morning until
4 o'clock in the afternoon. It costs just £2 to attend.
Q: What is the Self Advocate Parliament?
A: The Self Advocate Parliament is another way to make sure people have a voice. Sadly we don’t have enough money at the moment to keep running the Self Advocate Parliament Meetings.
We are trying our hardest to get more money and we hope to restart the Parliament later this year.
